EGMONT WEEK: CHELSEA CAMPBELL

Good morning one and all! Today I have with me the super hilarious, and amazing writer, Chelsea Campbell, author of the newly released THE RISE OF RENEGADE X. And Chelsea has even donated some goodies for a giveway, so stayed tuned to find out how you can put your name into the hat and win!

But before I get into my interview and find out what main character Chelsea would LOVE to be, here’s a bit more about her:

Bit O Bio for Chelsea Campbell: She grew up in the Pacific Northwest, where it rains a lot. And then rains some more. She finished her first novel when she was twelve, sent it out, and promptly got rejected. Since then she’s written many more novels, earned a degree in Latin and Ancient Greek, become an obsessive knitter and fiber artist, and started a collection of glass grapes. As a kid, Chelsea read lots of adult books, but now that she’s an adult herself (at least according to her driver’s license), she loves books for kids and teens. Besides writing, studying ancient languages, and collecting useless objects, Chelsea is a pop culture fangirl at heart and can often be found rewatching episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, leveling up in World of Warcraft, or spending way too much time on Livejournal and Facebook.

THE RISE OF RENEGADE X BLURB: Damien Locke knows his destiny–attending the university for supervillains andbecoming Golden City’s next professional evil genius. But when Damien discovers he’s the product of his supervillain mother’s one-night stand with–of all people–a superhero, his best-laid plans are ruined as he’s forced to live with his superhero family.

Going to extreme lengths (and heights), The Rise of Renegade X chronicles one boy’s struggles with the villainous and heroic pitfalls of growing up.

Oh folks, this is an awesome book on so many levels. I suggest you click on this little linky thing HERE and order it…okay…have you done it yet? Well, once you have, come back here cause you haven’t yet read Chelsea’s answers to my pressing questions.

Here goes:

So Chelsea, we’ve all contemplated this question, especially when we’ve read an amazing book with an even more amazing main character whose amazingness is just…amazing. But now, I want you to fess up and answer this question:

If you could BE (really BE) a main character in a book…what main character would you want to be and what book would you want to live in till the last page is turned?

I would totally want to be Harry Potter.  Even though he has a lot of problems, he gets through them and also gets to go to wizard school and go on adventures.

Wizard school does sound like a gas, and I would like my own pet owl because that would be extreme awesomeness. Now, tell me, if you were ever in this situation, would you rather be kicked in the chest by a mustang or face-clawed by a cheetah?

Yikes! If I had to pick, I think I’d go with the cheetah.  I mean, I would hope there was no lasting damage like getting an eye clawed out, but getting kicked in the chest sounds like it would be painful for a long time!  Like it could break my cartilage or stop my heart or something.

Yeah, I can see where you’re coming from.

So onto more pleasant topics like…like plane rides. Okay, so maybe that isn’t the most pleasant topic (especially if you’re an airplane throw-upper like myself), but imagine (as I try to do) the best airplane experience you could ever have…and don’t hold anything back.

In the best airplane experience, they would have lots of GOOD food (I still get grossed out when I think about the very gray-looking roll I ate on an airplane 10 years ago), and it would all be free.  And they would have the little TV screens on the backs of the seats and give you headphones, and there would always be something good on.  And I wouldn’t have to go to the bathroom the entire trip, but if I did, I would have no trouble getting to the aisle, even though I had a window seat.

There you have it! A glimpse into the mind of Chelsea Campbell! Thanks so much for chatting with me, Chelsea!

    Yay, RENEGADE X!

One Thanksgiving during dramatic, trying years my siblings and I drew a picture for the fridge of all of us in superhero outfits and determined our names and powers. We were all adults at the time, mind you, but it passed the time. I was Timexa (cringe, please don’t judge), I wore purple, and my power was complete and total control over time. I still want that power, but I’d probably think up a better name ;)

I loved The Rise of Renegade X! :) Thanks for sharing this interview. I like the sound of that perfect flight experience & agree with Chelsea’s choice of Harry Potter. Who doesn’t want to hang out at Hogwarts for a year (or seven)? ;-)

For a superhero name, I am going to go with The Green Thumb. It may not sound quite as mysterious and intimidating as The Green Lantern, but I would sure like to be able to weed the entire garden with the snap of my fingers or to make bright & colorful flowers bloom during the dreary days of winter. :)
